28th Fun Run to RAF Honington on Sunday 15th June 2008
Sunday June 15th saw the club organise a fun run in aid of the local Air Ambulance. Around 500 bikes met at the starting point at Washbrook Service Station between 9.30 and 11.00. The weather was fine, and the back-road run through Needham, Stowmarket and Woolpit was enjoyable and passed without incident. A big thank you to the road Marshalls who manned Junctions and turnings along the way. Without their help a few may have strayed and could still now be trying to find the way back to civilisation…… On arrival at RAF Honington we were all treated to a bike sprint race meeting for bikes both old and current. Alf Hagon rode the classic JAP on which he achieved 200 mph many years ago, though understandably admitted he doesn’t ride the thing as hard these days. He said he wanted to preserve both the bike and himself, and yes, he said it in that order! Club Chairman Dave Baldry said a few words to the representatives from
the Air Ambulance before presenting them with a cheque for four thousand
pounds on behalf of the CCMC. Thanks very much to all who took part,
as this is what the day is of course about.
